How To Write A Collection Letter [With Sample]

A Collection Letter is a letter which a creditor writes to a debtor when it is time for the debtor to pay up or when the time for the payment is very near. The writer of the letter should take note that the letter is a formal one and hence, should be brief or straight to the point but clear enough with references to the loan documents. The writer should also make sure to keep his or her tone in check; that is, try not to sound insulting, overbearing and humiliating.

Collection Letter (Reminder against First Instalment)

Dear Mr. Joseph,

This is with reference to the loan that you have taken from me on July 11, 2016.

I would like to use this medium to inform you that your first installment is due on August 21, 2016, as per the loan agreement. This letter is a payment collection reminder for the same.

Just to reiterate that if the payments are not received before the due dates, I will have to take legal action.

I hope to have a pleasurable business relationship with you.

Best regards,

Yours faithfully,

Collection Letter

Dear Mr. Joseph,

I have tried every possible means to get you to pay back as agreed during the time I lent you the amount of N100,000.00. Yet, you refuse to comply.

I am extremely interested in resolving this matter without a court. On this basis, I have given you one extra month which takes effect a day after the above date.

To avoid legal action, I must receive your check for N100,000.00 on or before September 11, 2016.

Yours faithfully,

_________
